One million visitors. Eight matches. One stadium with no parking. The World Cup 2026 MetLife Stadium experience kicks off Saturday, June 13 — and how you get there will make or break your match day. This is the most accurate transport guide you’ll find, verified against the official host-committee rules updated this week.
World Cup 2026 at MetLife Stadium: the 8 match days
MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ (called New York New Jersey Stadium during the tournament) hosts 8 matches between June 13 and July 19, 2026 — more than any other venue, including the Final:
- Sat · Jun 13 — Group stage (opening NYNJ match)
- Tue · Jun 16 — Group stage
- Mon · Jun 22 — Group stage
- Thu · Jun 25 — Group stage
- Sat · Jun 27 — Group stage
- Tue · Jun 30 — Round of 32
- Sun · Jul 5 — Round of 16
- Sun · Jul 19 — THE FINAL
Tournament capacity is about 78,500 seats (82,500 for the Final configuration), and officials project over one million visitors to the region. Translation: every train, shuttle and road will be at capacity on all eight dates.
The #1 thing nobody tells you: there is NO stadium parking
Read this twice before match day: there is no general spectator parking at the stadium, and vehicle access to stadium grounds is restricted to tournament-permitted vehicles only. Every private car, charter and rideshare — no exceptions — uses the official designated drop zone at Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment, just off the property, with a signed walking route of about 1.3 miles (2.1 km) to the gates. Drop-offs outside designated areas are not permitted, per the official host committee transport page.
Anyone promising to “drop you at the door” is either misinformed or lying to you. Plan around the drop zone and the walk — wear comfortable shoes.
Every way to get to MetLife Stadium on match day
1 · NJ TRANSIT rail (via Secaucus Junction)
Expanded rail service runs from New York Penn Station and across New Jersey, transferring at Secaucus Junction onto matchday-only trains and buses. Match-day fans only; advance purchase required — book at njtworldcup.com. Expect serious queues right after the final whistle.
2 · The Official NYNJ Stadium Shuttle — $20 roundtrip
Four color-coded lines: Red (Midtown North), Green (Midtown East), Blue (Port Authority Bus Terminal) and Yellow (Hackensack Meridian park-and-ride, NJ). After public pressure, the price was cut from $80 to $20 roundtrip. Seats are limited, non-transferable, for confirmed match-day fans, advance purchase only — buy here. Great value if you’re solo or a pair and don’t mind fixed hubs and queues.
3 · Uber / rideshare
Pickup and drop-off happen at the same Meadowlands drop zone as everyone else, and surge pricing before and after matches is expected to be brutal — think airport-on-a-holiday levels, with long waits after the final whistle as 80,000 people reach for their phones at once.
4 · Driving yourself
The only pre-purchasable parking nearby is off-property at American Dream Mall via JustPark — and matchday rates have been reported above $200 per game. Then you still walk.
5 · Private group shuttle — the door-to-drop-zone option
If you’re a group of 4 to 55 — a family, a fan club, a company outing — a private match-day shuttle picks you up at your hotel or address, rides together as one group, drops you at the official zone, waits during the match, and carries you home while everyone else fights for trains and surge-priced cars. Fixed flat price for the whole vehicle, no surge, card-secured online in 2 minutes — and you’re only charged after your vehicle is confirmed. Get your fixed price in 30 seconds →

11 match-day tips from people who move groups for a living
- Arrive 2–3 hours before kickoff. Security screening for ~80,000 people takes time; most fans schedule pickup ~4 hours before.
- Book your transport early. Official shuttle seats and NJT matchday capacity are limited — they check your match credential before boarding.
- Wear walking shoes. The 1.3-mile drop-zone walk is non-negotiable, whoever drives you.
- Set a meeting point at Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment for after the match — phone networks choke when the stadium empties.
- Bring a battery pack. Transport passes, confirmations and maps all live on your phone.
- Check the bag policy on the stadium site before you leave — clear-bag rules apply on matchdays.
- Hydrate before the walk — June and July in the Meadowlands can be brutal; water is included on every See City Tours vehicle.
- Don’t drive without pre-paid parking. You will be turned away; there is nowhere to improvise.
- Groups of 7+: price a private vehicle per person. A full Sprinter often beats 14 separate rideshare surge fares — with zero coordination stress.
- Leave buffer for the Final (Jul 19). Biggest crowd of the tournament; double every time estimate.
- Screenshot everything — confirmations, transport passes, the drop-zone map — in case of dead zones.
FAQ
Can a private car or bus drop me at the stadium gates?
No. On matchdays, only tournament-permitted vehicles access stadium grounds. Everyone else uses the official Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment drop zone with its signed walking route (~1.3 mi).
How early should I book group transport for the Final?
Now. Vehicle supply in the NY/NJ region is finite and July 19 demand is the highest of the tournament. Reservations are card-secured but only charged after vehicle confirmation, so booking early carries no risk.
What does a private match-day shuttle cost?
Fixed flats for the whole vehicle, all-in: SUV (up to 6) $1,095 · Sprinter van (up to 14) $1,495 · Mini-coach (up to 30) $1,795 · Full coach (up to 55) $2,495 — that’s as low as $45 per person, door-to-drop-zone both ways, with the vehicle waiting during the match. Calculate your exact price here.
Is the $20 official shuttle good?
Yes — for individuals and pairs it’s the best public deal, if you can work with the four fixed hubs, advance purchase and post-match queues.
